World Mission Sunday at the Pallottine Provincialate
On the last Sunday in October, the German Church celebrates World Mission Sunday: here in Germany, we open ourselves to other countries. Christians join together, building a bridge to diverse regions where faith in Jesus is shared.
In the Pallotti Church in Friedberg, brothers from South Africa, Malawi, Nigeria, and Croatia were guests on Sunday. Only with their voices — singing a cappella — the African Pallottines enriched the service with music. Languages as unfamiliar as Chichewa (Malawi), Igbo (Nigeria), and Xhosa (South Africa) resounded, delighting the congregation. ‘You should do this more often!’ praised one attendee.
In his sermon, Mission Secretary Father Markus Hau aimed to renew the understanding of the often challenging word ‘mission’ in Germany: Mission as a personal calling. A simple three-step approach: hearing the Gospel, being moved by it, and being sent to people in their need. Whether in Nigeria, Germany, or India, this approach remains the same.
In this vibrant service, a sense of Pallottine community was also present. The Pallottines form a global network of faith and assistance.
