"Every Cent Feeds"
Pallottines Alleviate Famine Thanks to Support from Germany and Austria
An Incredible Sum of €399,495 Has Been Donated So Far to the Pallottines Following Our Appeal “Hunger Returns – We Help.” On Behalf of All Our Brothers, I Thank Every Donor Sincerely for Every Cent Contributed. Because Every Cent Feeds. Here Are Some Examples of How Your Donations Are Directly Alleviating the Inhumane Hardship of Hunger:
In Thembalethu, a neighborhood of George in South Africa, stands a small building next to the church led by our brother, Father Charles Okpo. This building serves as a soup kitchen. From here, Brother Tebogo Meshack Dlamini ensures that food is distributed once a week to children and the elderly. Typically, between 150 and 200 people receive maize and beans, along with some meat and bread. Earlier this year, burglars caused significant damage. To continue providing food and supplies, we aim to secure the property with fencing and renovate the damaged building.
Also in South Africa, in Durban, our brother Fr. George Bidzogo serves as the parish priest at St. Peter’s Church. The area has a high number of refugees from other African countries. Many live homeless on the streets, including numerous children and elderly individuals. Together with a group of helpers, Fr. George ensures that these people are not left alone in their suffering. Since 2015, they have been preparing a warm meal three times a week, including beans, rice, cabbage, chicken, and meat bones, for around 200 people. On other days, they distribute sandwiches and food packages. Family members unable to come to the food distribution site also receive supplies.
Food for the Poorest
In Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, our brother Fr. Marcel Emeribe is responsible for the food distribution project in the city of Owerri. Each month, food packages containing rice, beans, yams, onions, salt, spices, and tomatoes are distributed at three locations. In the parish, approximately 50 families are served in this way, with the novitiate community and the theology student community each supporting about 20 families. Around 450 people benefit monthly from this assistance. “It is the poorest of the poor who come to us,” says Fr. Marcel.
In Malawi, in the small town of Kaphatika at St. Vincent Pallotti Parish, our brothers Fr. Jones Wellos and Fr. Dumisani Nkhoswe are involved in parish pastoral care, the school, and a maize mill. Fr. Dumisani has also started setting up a kindergarten for the young children of the village. In addition to providing care and introducing them to the world of learning, the children will receive daily meals.
